Shanghai re-imposes Covid-19 blockade

According to Reuters, Shanghai authorities reported four more symptomatic cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. All come from quarantined areas.

The Minhang district in Shanghai – with more than 2 million residents – is asking people to stay home for the next two days to prevent Covid-19 from spreading in the community. The county also conducted nucleic acid testing for all residents on June 11.

Other areas in Shanghai began imposing new Covid-19 blockade orders from June 9. Residents must stay home for 2 days and undergo 12 days of rigorous Covid-19 testing.

In three Shanghai neighborhoods, residents will be required to undergo five rounds of mandatory testing, which is expected to be completed on June 23. Green barriers and red wooden boards have been erected along some of the streets near these three neighborhoods over the past week to keep residents out.

The Shanghai Health Commission announced in its June 7 briefing that the city would continue to implement restrictions even in areas not designated as “high-risk”. Relevant measures will be adjusted flexibly. Shanghai Disneyland Main Park, Disneytown and 2 Disneyland resort hotels remain closed until further notice.
