Shangri-La Dialogue discusses regional stability
Regional stabilization will be on the agenda Shangri-La Dialogue 19th held in Singapore this week.
Singapore’s Ministry of National Defense (MINDEF) released a statement on June 9, saying that a total of 42 countries, 37 ministerial-level delegates and more than 30 senior defense officials, including defense force leaders and prominent scholars language will attend.
The high-level security summit in Singapore has been reorganized after a 2-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Channel News Asia noted. The Shangri-La Dialogue organized by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) will take place from June 10 to 12.
Established in 2002, the Shangri-La Dialogue is considered the premier defense and security conference in the Asia-Pacific region.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will deliver a keynote speech on the first day of the dialogue, while Singaporean President Halimah Yacob will host a dinner party on June 11 at Istana.
Singapore’s Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen will speak at Saturday’s plenary session on June 12 on the topic of New Ideas for Ensuring Regional Stability.
As part of the Shangri-La Dialogue, the Singapore Defense Minister will chair roundtable discussions on June 11 and 12. On the sidelines of the dialogue, he will also have bilateral meetings with ministers and senior officials from other countries.
