The low life



John, a recent Yale graduate, moves to Los Angeles to pursue a career in writing. True to his uncle’s advice, “Don’t feel anything for anyone,” John hovers from job to job, trying to live a detached life. One day, out of the blue, John is fed up with life, gets out of control and quits his job. Descending to the lower spectrum of society, he becomes a slumlord’s handyman and rent collector, where he meets Bevan, an oversexed, alcoholic vixen. While he spends his days fixing plumbing and evicting tenants, his drinking at the local bar becomes a nightly routine. But when an unexpected tragedy strikes him, John must reassess what happened to his life and learns that empathizing with others and delving into the darker ones may actually help him achieve his own dreams Mixing in details of other people’s lives. Originally released in 1996, with outstanding performances from an all-star cast, this tenth anniversary special includes a reimagining and extras from director George Hickenlooper (Factory Girl).
