The United Nations General Assembly elects Vietnam as Vice President of the 77th term

According to the reporter VNA in New York, Hungarian Ambassador Csaba Korosi became the new President of the 77th UN General Assembly, term 2022-2023; replacing Mr. Abdulla Shahid, Maldivian, President of the 76th UN General Assembly.

The meeting also agreed to elect Vietnam to become one of the Vice Presidents of the 77th UN General Assembly representing the Asia-Pacific region. Vietnam will take up this position for one year, from September 13.

The United Nations General Assembly is one of the six main organs of the United Nations and the only one of the United Nations with representatives from all 193 member states. The UN General Assembly has broad authority in the fields of political, economic, cultural and social cooperation; has the right to discuss and make recommendations on matters falling within the scope of the Charter or any matter within the competence of the organs of the United Nations, for the purpose of promoting international cooperation on a global scale.

Other countries elected as Vice President of the 77th UN General Assembly include Benin, Burundi, Kenya, Mauritania, Niger, Zimbabwe (Africa region), Malaysia, Nepal, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan (Asia-Pacific region). Ocean), Chile, El Salvador, Jamaica (Latin America), Estonia (Eastern Europe), Israel, Australia (Western Europe and others).
