The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the policy of the Party and State on the general education program, including a very specific History subject. Resolution No. 29-NQ/TW dated November 4, 2013 of the 8th Plenum of the Party Central Committee, term XI of the Party Central Committee on fundamental and comprehensive reform of education and training (Resolution 29) clearly stated the The requirements for the new general education program are as follows: “Ensure students with lower secondary school qualifications (end of grade 9) have basic general knowledge, meeting the requirements of strong streamlining after lower secondary school. institutions; high schools must approach careers and prepare for quality post-secondary education”.

Resolution 88 of the National Assembly, Decision No. 404 of the Prime Minister clearly stipulates that “12-year general education consists of 2 educational stages. Including: basic education stage (5-year primary school and 5 years primary education) lower secondary education level 4 years) and career-oriented education phase (3 years high school level), in which basic education guarantees students basic general knowledge, the Deputy Prime Minister said. This is clearly shown when stipulating that History is a compulsory subject, while the career orientation stage, according to the Deputy Prime Minister, is to ensure students’ access to careers and prepare students for the post-secondary stage with quality.

The Ministry of Education and Training has issued Circular 32 in 2018 on the general education curriculum, including History. The general education program is designed in two phases. The basic stage of education with History and Geography is a compulsory subject from grades 4-9 with a total duration of 560 periods, with History subject taking up 280 periods. In the period of career-oriented education from grades 10-12, History is arranged as a subject in a combination of social subjects.

Thus, the Deputy Prime Minister said, History subject is taught in all high schools, ensuring effective use of existing history teachers.
