Tim Cook has a headache before the trend of working remotely

The Apple CEO said that the form of remote working is still not complete, although the company has more than two years of testing this model.

When asked about the biggest changes happening in the Apple workplace, Tim Cook said: “We could say, we’re running all kinds of experiments because we don’t know which is optimal. We try to do our best. try both ways (remote and in-house), find common ground so that you can make the most of these two worlds.”

Cook said he likes the randomness in face-to-face meetings. In some cases, he wants to meet to discuss problems. According to him, virtual interaction “is not inferior, just a little different”.

Apple CEO revealed that the company is using two online meeting applications, Zoom and Webex. The key, he says, is finding a model that takes advantage of both face-to-face and virtual interactions. That model may be different from what is being used.

“The starting point may be wrong, but we will take steps to correct it,” he added.

Apple’s working policy is evaluated more strictly than other major technology firms. While Meta, Google and Amazon are considering for some groups of employees to work remotely permanently, Apple is asking all to come to the office at least three days a week from May 23.

Some employees object to this policy. “I have no intention of going back to work at Apple’s office,” said one person on Blind, an app that allows employees of large companies to discuss semi-anonymously.

Last month, a senior manager at Apple’s machine learning business, Ian Goodfellow, publicly criticized the policy and left the company afterward. “I believe a flexible form of work would be the best policy,” Goodfellow told The Verge then.

In a March announcement, Tim Cook admitted that some employees did not want to return to the office. “Many of you have long been looking forward to returning to work at headquarters. This is an important milestone and a positive sign that we can connect more with our colleagues at work and in life. . However, there are also some who see this milestone as a worrying change,” Cook said.

When asked about progress in the development of AR glasses, he declined to answer. However, he stressed the technology “has the opportunity to improve conversations, strengthen connections between people” in the future, but will not replace face-to-face interactions.
