UN calls for urgent assistance to prevent famine in Somalia

Mr. Adam Abdelmoula – United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia said: “Drought so far has affected the lives of 7 million people, more than 805,000 people have been displaced in Somalia. Nearly half. The population of this country is facing the loss of Food Security crisis level or worse”.

Somalia is going through bad drought The most in the past 40 years, after 3 consecutive rainy seasons, there was no rain. According to the United Nations, Somalia is the country most affected by drought in the Horn of Africa.

Food insecurity is worsening across the country, with an estimated 5.2 million people (equivalent to a third of the population) experiencing crisis or worse consequences. At least 1.5 million children are facing acute malnutrition and epidemic diseases.

The United Nations warned that food insecurity and malnutrition in Somalia are likely to worsen between June and September.
