According to Mr. Hoa, since the district asked the mining enterprises in the area to stop exploiting groundwater, until now, the houses of households in the commune no longer have cracks and subsidence; 299 wells that were dry at the bottom have also returned to water.

“This morning, there was a sinkhole, but this hole has subsided before and the rate of further subsidence is not large. In particular, so far, no new sinkholes have appeared,” said Mr. Hoa.

According to Mr. Hoa, so far, 249 households have reported cracked houses. All of these households cracked before May 29, just because of late reporting.

Related to this incident, it is known that the North Central Geological Federation has completed 3 drills with a depth of more than 30m to probe subsidence points to find the cause.

Meanwhile, the delegation of the Department of Construction inspected the office of the Commune People’s Committee and schools. The team divided into two groups and are continuing to work in Na Hieng and Na Noong villages.

The inter-sectoral delegation chaired by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, in collaboration with relevant departments and branches, is also checking the observance of the law, according to the mining records… especially for enterprises using Use underground water pump.

As reported by Traffic Newspaper: From the end of 2019 to April 2022, in Chau Hong commune, Quy Hop district, there were 279 domestic water wells that were dry at the bottom; 13 sinkholes in wet rice fields, along streams.

Especially, from the end of February 2022, there were 114 houses cracked, cracked… Estimated damage is up to 57 billion VND.

The situation of subsidence and “sinkholes” became especially serious and complicated at the end of May 2022. When here appeared a “death” hole about 3m wide, more than 15m deep in Cong village.

Or like a “death” hole about 4m wide and about 6-8m deep appearing right under the floor of a house in Na Hieng village.

Faced with this situation, the People’s Committee of Nghe An province hired the North Central Geological Federation to survey and find the cause.

In particular, on May 29, Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Trung directly inspected and gave instructions to handle.

In which, agencies, departments and branches are assigned to create conditions for the North Central Coast geological team to perform the task of assessing the cause.

By July 31, 2022 at the latest, there is a conclusion to accurately and objectively assess the cause of the condition.

Initially, the Geological Union of the North Central region determined that the cause of the “death” hole was a drop in groundwater.
