Another shooting in the US, 3 people were killed, 1 police officer was injured

According to the news agency AP, a man was shootings into a manufacturing business called Columbia Machine Inc. in Smithsburg, in rural western Maryland on June 9, killing three people and seriously injuring another.

According to a press release from the Washington – Maryland County Sheriff’s Office, three victims were dead when they approached the scene. The suspect then fled in a vehicle and was sought by the Maryland State Police.

AP Maryland Governor Larry Hogan said the suspect opened fire on the soldiers when unable to escape, hitting a police officer in the shoulder. “The man then fired back and hit him,” Hogan said.

Authorities did not have information on whether the suspect and the victims were employees of the company where the shooting took place.

According to the news agency Reuters, A spokesperson for Columbia Machine said the company is cooperating with authorities in the investigation, but declined to comment further. It is a company that supplies concrete production equipment to customers in over 1,000 countries.

Family members of workers at the factory gathered at a fire station in downtown Smithsburg on Thursday night, awaiting information about their loved ones but declined to speak to reporters.

Hours after the shooting, many law enforcement officers remained at the scene, cordoning off the company premises and part of the road. The FBI’s Baltimore Office and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said above Twitter that they’re sending agents to the scene.

U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, a Maryland Democrat, mourned the loss of life in his state and vowed to take action.

“Today’s horrific shooting occurred as our state and nation have witnessed one tragedy after another, and it must stop. We must act to address the discharges. mass guns and everyday gun violence against our communities” – AP quoted Senator Hollen.
