Causes and rates

Brain tumors can originate in the brain itself or spread of other types of cancer from any other organ of the body such as the lung, breast, kidney or prostate. Primary brain tumors include gliomas, meningiomas, pituitary tumors, and auditory gliomas.

Brain tumors can occur at any age, the cause is not clear.

Symptoms depend on the size, type, and location of the tumor.

The most common types of primary brain tumors in adults are astrocytomas, meningiomas, and oligodendrogliomas.

The most common primary brain tumors in children are medulloblastoma, grade I or II astrocytoma, meningioma, and brain stem glioma.

Brain tumors are diagnosed by your doctor based on your medical history, physical exam, and various specialized tests of the brain and nervous system.

Brain tumor treatment options include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or a combination of methods.

The prevalence of brain tumors in the world is about 200-300 people/100,000 people.

Symptom

Manifestations of a brain tumor may include the following: Headache, altered mental status, nausea, vomiting, weakness, gait instability, focal seizures, decreased vision, difficulty speaking …

New-onset seizures in adults or headaches with weakness or numbness in the limbs suggest many of the signs associated with brain tumors.

Doctors diagnose the disease by CT scan and magnetic resonance.

Treatment

Doctors can recommend treatments depending on the type, extent, location of the tumor and the patient’s overall health: Surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, steroids, anti-seizure medications , place a peritoneal ventricular shunt.

A diagnosis of a brain tumor does not always mean a very bad outcome. Many CNS tumors are benign and curable with surgical resection. In many cases of malignant tumors, patients can still live a long time with correct surgery and other management measures.

Survival rates depend on the patient’s age, tumor type, benign or malignant, and the extent of surgical resection.
