Chinese netizens accuse Apple of ‘faking’ Xiaomi, calling for a boycott
At the WWDC 2022 event for global developers just held on June 6, Apple introduced a new version of the iOS 16 operating system with many changes. Notably, among the interface changes, iOS 16 allows users to customize and personalize the lock screen with different wallpapers, fonts, widgets and effects.
However, among the above changes, there is a feature that many users think is quite similar to another feature on Xiaomi phones.
Specifically, the feature mentioned here is a globe-shaped lock screen. Accordingly, iOS 16 provides a set of Earth wallpapers. This wallpaper will gradually enlarge the Earth according to the animation of the bottom swipe unlocking action. Xiaomi users then voiced that iOS 16 “imitates” the Super Wallpaper feature on Xiaomi’s MIUI
The Super Wallpaper feature, or Super Wallpaper, was first introduced by Xiaomi on the MIUI 12 version released in April 2020. With Super Wallpaper, users will experience a unique unlocking effect, combined with the feature. With the Always on Display feature and unlocking animations, MIUI will take users from a planet-wide interface to a detailed area on that planet. MIUI provides a lot of Super Wallpapers, including Earth, Mars, Saturn … Each wallpaper will have different moving effects.
We can see a similarity between the lock screen on iOS 16 and the Super Wallpaper on MIUI. However, that alone is not enough to conclude whether iOS “copy” this lock screen feature on MIUI or not.
