Ha Tinh: Bridge collapsed for many years without repair, people abandoned their fields due to long detours

The strong impact caused the pier to be displaced, the bridge deck was tilted, and there was a danger of collapsing into the river at any time.

Immediately after the incident happened, Duc Tho district police coordinated with Hong Linh town police (Ha Tinh province) to urgently install dangerous warning signs, block both ends of the bridge, and prevent people and vehicles from crossing. on bridges and in rivers to ensure the safety of people’s lives and properties.

Although it is not the main route to the commune, every day thousands of people and vehicles of motorbikes, bicycles, ox carts from Gia Thinh village and Thai Yen carpentry village (Thanh Binh Thinh commune) pass through here. , enter QL8A to go to school, work, transport goods and do business.

Since the day Bai Then bridge was dismantled, the circulation of people in the area has been completely cut off.

From this side of the bridge, if you want to go to National Highway 8A (on the other side of the bridge), there are only 2 ways to go by boat across the river or take a 3km detour. Since then, trade has been severely affected.

Bai Than Bridge, after being hit by a sand tanker, caused the pier to shift, in danger of collapsing into the river at any time.

Anh Hung, a resident of Thanh Binh Thinh commune (Duc Tho) who currently works as a carpenter next to Bai Then bridge in Thuan Tien residential group, Duc Thuan ward (Hong Linh town), said that before Thai Yen people, Duc Thinh (old) often crosses this bridge.

Since the bridge was dismantled, traffic became interrupted, business households in this area (Bai Then area) lost about 50% of their revenue. Hung himself also faced many difficulties when receiving or returning goods to Thai Yen carpentry village because he had to go around 3km more, so the transportation cost increased.

Mr. Sang (born in 1962, from Gia Thinh village, owner of Sang Lien porridge shop) said, formerly a wooden bridge, because the families in the village cut down trees of the cooperative to make. Then there was a river dredging project, so it was built with a cement bridge with a length of nearly 30m and a width of about 2m. There is a bridge for convenient travel, a large number of people pass through, so in 1995 he bought land here (next to Bai Than bridge in Hong Linh town – PV) to open a restaurant to make a living.

According to Mr. Sang, his shop mainly serves the people of Thai Yen and Duc Thinh (on the other side of the bridge, now Thanh Binh Thinh commune). When there was still demand, the shop was very crowded, besides the husband and wife, they had to mobilize a few more daughters (married) to support. Since the bridge was broken, due to having to go around a long distance, the guests were completely absent.

“The bridge is broken, the guests are few, the children have to find other things to do. In 2021, the shop is almost closed, partly due to the epidemic, but the main reason is that there are no customers”, Mr. Sang said sadly.

Local authorities and functional forces have installed dangerous warning signs, made baries block the two ends of the bridge, preventing people and vehicles from passing on the bridge and in the river to ensure safety.

“People in the area know that there is no longer a bridge, so they will take another route. Many people go far away, only to return to their hometown after many years, so they are often mistaken, drive the car close to the riverbank, then they know to turn back”, Mr. Sang added.

Mrs. Hien (SN 1965, resident of Gia Thinh village) said: “With the bridge, commercial services in Bai Than area are quite developed, our people are also convenient to travel to buy daily necessities and labor products. export.

The whole village of Gia Thinh has 16 acres of fields on the other side of the bridge, and my house also has 3.5 sao. Before, it only took 3km, but now I have to go around 3km more so I let you do it. Due to the distance and difficulty of traveling, some households lend it to them, while the elderly, anchored, have to accept to leave the field.

After the bridge was dismantled, people could not pass through, affecting trade and production, many households had to give up or abandon their fields due to long distances.

“Losing the bridge, on one side (the people of Thanh Binh Thinh) it is difficult to travel, the other side (Bai Than area) suffers economic losses. Communes and districts have called out a lot, they have promised many times but have not yet seen them,” said Ms. Hien.

“The collapse of the bridge caused a very serious impact on people’s travel and production. The construction of a new bridge is to serve an urgent need, because the people of Gia Thinh village and Thai Yen carpentry village mainly go through this road,” Chairman Huong affirmed.

Also according to Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thanh Binh Thinh Commune, because it is related to the river and bridge level, it must be at the provincial level or higher to be able to do it. With a cost of about VND 30 billion, the locality and district cannot afford it, only petitioning the superiors.
