In a video posted late on June 8, President Zelensky noted that Severodonetsk remains the focus of the confrontation in the Donbass and will determine the fate of this region.

In his speech, he said that in the 105th day of the war, the fighting was still extremely complicated. Besides, he also expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian soldiers who died to protect the peace of their homeland. 285 Ukrainian soldiers received state awards, 68 of them posthumously.

Also in the video, Zelensky thanked Polish President Andrzej Duda for his special trip to European countries to support Ukraine’s stance on joining the European Union (EU).

On June 8, the President of Ukraine talked with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz about Kiev’s EU accession process, as well as discussed measures to support defense and on food security.

Also today, Mr. Zelensky spoke to participants of an investment conference held to discuss Ukraine’s economic prospects. Representatives of the world’s largest funds also participated. Although the event is not public, it is very important and influential. Here, the President of Ukraine invited investors to support the reconstruction process of this country.

Zelensky stressed that sanctions against Russia should be strengthened. He established that the leading companies and organizations, which make up the majority of American and European societies, believe that current measures are not enough to force Russia to end this war.

Zelensky’s speech came amid fierce fighting in Severodonetsk. Ukrainian forces have been pushed back and now control only the outskirts of the city after violent conflicts with Russia.

Lugansk governor Serhiy Gaidai told RBC-Ukraine media on June 8: “Our forces currently control only the outskirts of the city. But the fighting is still ongoing, their forces I am defending Severodonetsk. It cannot be said that Russia has complete control of the city.”
