Shipper has the highest salary in the group of unskilled workers

Drivers are the group of unskilled workers with the highest wages and the biggest increase in the first six months of the year, according to Good Jobs’ report.

The report was made by dissecting the big data of Good Jobs – one of the most popular marketplaces for unskilled jobs with 1.4 million jobs posted from 40,000 employers. This platform belongs to Cho Tot Co., Ltd, which belongs to Carousell Group (Singapore).

This unit with 4.2 million visits per day said that the delivery driver industry had the highest salary growth in the first half of 2022. March alone – the time after Tet and also the month that peaks in the year. In the first quarter, salary growth of this industry group reached 11.2% over the same period. The above developments reflect the heat in demand and competition for labor sources of delivery drivers compared to other industries.

In terms of absolute value, delivery drivers also have the highest salaries in the market labor in general, averaged 10.1 million dong a month in the post-lockdown period. Behind are workers with an average salary of about 9.1 million VND per month. The salary of restaurant and hotel staff grew at a high rate, but only at VND 6.7 million, lower than sales and security staff.

According to this platform, the labor supply is falling short of the development needs of the transportation industry. Specifically, the strong growth of logistics and e-commerce has led to a rapid increase in the demand for transportation and forwarding forces.

A recent report by the Vietnam E-commerce Association (Vecom) shows that the sector still boomed last year despite the pandemic with a growth rate of over 20%. The recovery of shopping demand according to each holiday also leads to a sudden increase in the number of orders to be shipped. Therefore, units must continuously replenish personnel.

“Technological ride-hailing services are also expected to thrive after Covid-19 but the number of drivers is not enough to keep up with demand, in part because their costs have increased, slowing the growth rate of digital cars. shipper,” added the Good Deeds representative.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Trung – CEO of food delivery and instant delivery platform Loship, confirmed that the income of drivers in particular and the parties involved in the e-commerce supply chain in general, are growing. Although the gap has passed, consumers have formed and maintained the habit of buying online. Moreover, the driver’s income is made up of the working frequency and bonus policy of the technology company. On average, a shipper who works 8 hours a day can earn 400,000-600,000 VND.

“A large part of shippers consider this to be an official job, operating until 12-18 hours a day,” Trung added.

Although the common ground is high, the driver’s income is still divided. According to Good Jobs, truck and container truck drivers earn higher salaries than delivery drivers by motorbike due to their unique license requirements and the long-distance nature of the job.

The income of workers in this group also varies by geographical location. The salary for recruiting shippers in Binh Duong and Dong Nai is 5-10% higher than in Ho Chi Minh City, while the standard of living in these two provinces is still significantly lower. Room rentals in Binh Duong and Dong Nai alone are 10-25% lower than in Ho Chi Minh City, according to data from Cho Tot Nha website.

In general, in the whole unskilled labor market, the average salary increased steadily in the first months of the year and peaked in April 2022 when it increased by 12.4% compared to the beginning of the year. However, gradually in the middle of the year, the salary in the market tends to decrease slightly.

The above report also shows that the salary of workers in Ho Chi Minh City has taken the lead in the country in March with 9.8 million dong. But on average in the first 5 months of the year, workers in Ho Chi Minh City still receive lower wages. This situation has happened before. Good Job’s 2021 Tet salary and bonus report clearly shows that workers in HCM City are not the highest-paid group in the country. But since the time of social distancing until now, the fact that businesses in Ho Chi Minh City have continuously raised wages for workers reflects the degree of shortage of human resources compared to actual production needs.

“This may partly be due to the movement of more than 500,000 workers from Ho Chi Minh City back to their hometown by the end of 2021”, the representative of this unit explained using data from the General Statistics Office in January 2022.

In addition, Good Job also believes that the unskilled labor market in the first half of this year has had a big change in job search demand. In the new normal, being able to take the initiative in time or being allowed to work from home gradually becomes the top criteria of employees. This trend occurs not only in administrative – office groups but also in the unskilled workforce.

Accordingly, the occupational groups that are most sought after by employees include sales and customer care (20%), online work and work from home (19%), driver and delivery (17%). )… Among the popular occupations, workers tend to find a change more clearly. Nearly two-thirds of the former workers now start looking for work in the above-mentioned groups of industries.
