Local media reported that the accident happened on the afternoon of June 8 in California, about 50km north of the Mexican border.

The crashed plane was identified as a V-22 Osprey of the 3rd Marine Squadron based at Mirama Air Force Base near San Diego, USA. The cause of the plane crash is unknown.

According to initial sources, the plane that crashed during a drill was carrying “nuclear material” and the entire crew of five people is suspected to have died. However, a Pentagon spokesman later said: “I can confirm, a V-22 aircraft crashed in Glamis, California. There was no nuclear material on board. Other than that, we did not have nuclear material on board. I don’t have any more information.”
