Young people eagerly queued up, waiting for an hour to check-in with Thu Thiem 2 bridge

After 7 years of construction, Thu Thiem 2 bridge across the Saigon River connecting the city center to Thu Thiem new urban area was officially inaugurated and opened to traffic today (April 28).

With a “golden position” on the Saigon River, Thu Thiem 2 Bridge has a total length of 1,465m and a scale of 6 lanes. The 885m-long bridge section is designed in the form of a cable-stayed cable with the main tower, creating a curved shape leaning towards Thu Thiem. The bridge is invested about 3,100 billion VND – the largest cost among the bridges in HCMC up to this point; is considered an architectural highlight, a new symbol of the city, contributing to promoting tourism development.

According to the original plan, Thu Thiem 2 bridge will be open to traffic at 15:00 on April 28. Therefore, a lot of Saigon people, especially young people, gathered at both ends early to wait for the moment to open the traffic. Although it had to wait until about 5 p.m. the barrier was removed and vehicles were officially allowed to go up to Thu Thiem 2 bridge, people were still very happy and excited to enjoy this special moment. Some residents even stopped to see the city from a new perspective.

– Thu Thiem 2 Bridge is an asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge with only 1 tower. This is the trend that many countries are applying to cable-stayed bridges. In particular, the bow-shaped tower of Thu Thiem 2 creates a highlight as well as presents a technical challenge. In my opinion, Thu Thiem 2 bridge is unique in terms of technique, simple and modern in design.

– I find this bridge very beautiful and has a unique asymmetrical shape, looking at it is less boring.

– Every day coming home from work through Ton Duc Thang street is also stuck. Too happy when the bridge is opened, the barriers are removed, the roads and landscapes are more open, much more beautiful and importantly, very less traffic jams.

Thu Thiem 2 Bridge possesses outstanding architecture, which is not only expected to reduce congestion on Ton Duc Thang street but also increase the beauty of the Saigon River.

Thu Thiem Bridge 2 is considered a new and unique symbol of Ho Chi Minh City.
