New Xbox update brings noise cancellation
The Alpha Skip-Ahead ring will receive an update with noise cancellation for the Party Chat feature.
Chatting while gaming on an Xbox console can be fun, according to Engadget, but it’s not uncommon for the poor quality microphones of chat group members to make annoying noises at times. “We’ve enabled a new feature that processes microphone input audio through a noise cancellation step, resulting in clearer audio during Party Chat sessions,” the announcement said on the Xbox blog. “The setting is on by default but can also be enabled from the options menu.”
This feature seems to take cues from Discord’s Krisp audio filters, along with technology Broadcast by NVIDIA. Krisp uses AI to filter out most types of noise, but there have been some users who have complained about the reduced sound quality.
The Xbox update also includes various fixes for audio, controllers, HDMI CEC, Guides and more, it will be available in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring as early as May 12, but will roll out more widely in the near future.
