Vietnam becomes Vice President of the United Nations General Assembly representing Asia-Pacific

On June 7, the UNGA elected the 77th UNGA President and Vice-Presidents.

Hungarian Ambassador Csaba Korosi has become the new 77th UNGA President, term 2022-2023, replacing Mr. Abdulla Shahid, Maldivian, 76th UNGA President.

The meeting also agreed to vote Vietnam became one of the 77th UNGA Vice Presidents representing the Asia-Pacific region.

Vietnam will take up this position for one year from September 13.

UNGA is one of the six main organs of the United Nations and the only one of the United Nations with representatives from all 193 member states.

UNGA has broad jurisdiction in the fields of political, economic, cultural and social cooperation, and has the right to discuss and make recommendations on matters falling within the scope of the Charter or any matter within its competence. agencies of the United Nations, with the aim of promoting international cooperation on a global scale.

Other countries elected as Vice Presidents of the United Nations for the 77th term include Benin, Burundi, Kenya, Mauritania, Niger, Zimbabwe (Africa region), Malaysia, Nepal, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan (Asia-Pacific region), Chile, El Salvador, Jamaica (Latin America), Estonia (Eastern Europe), Israel, Australia (Western Europe and others).

During 45 years as a member of the United Nations, Vietnam has shouldered many great responsibilities and made many substantial and effective contributions to the largest multilateral organization on the planet.
