The monster fish has been identified by oceanographers as ghost sharkliving at a depth of 200-2,550m on the deep sea floor.

The creature was captured by Roman Fedortsov, a commercial fisherman stationed near the Russian port city of Murmansk, who photographed dozens of worms during the night while fishing.

One of the findings strange Fedortsov’s best, posted a week ago has more than 649,000 followers on his Instagram, is a fish translucent white with sunken blue eyes, a tail like a wing, and fins like a bat’s wing. Most distinctive are perhaps the odd, stitch-like markings that make the fish look like they’ve been sewn together in a messy way, like Frankenstein or “Jigsaw” from the comic book “The Punisher”.

However, some marine-savvy social media users correctly guessed that the creature was a ghost shark – also known as a chimaera, ratfish, ghost fish or harefish – related to fish sharks and rays, according to Smithsonian magazine.

According to the UK’s Shark Trust, this fish has only cartilage, not bone, and is rarely seen as they are found at depths between 200m and 2,550m. In fact, although it has been known to science for quite some time, it was first captured on camera in 2016.
