One victim of asphyxiation died
Quang NinhVice-captain Pham Son Lam, 55, one of four workers who had an accident while fixing a pump problem in Ha Long Park, died on the morning of April 5.
The leader of Ha Long City said that of the remaining three victims, two have recovered, one is in critical condition. The toxic gas inhaled by workers can be hydrogen sulfide (H2S).

On the afternoon of April 4, six workers from Ha Long Urban Environment Joint Stock Company fixed the broken chain of the pump motor – PS5 pump station, at Ha Long park. All are equipped with full protective equipment, in which a direct operator wears a diving suit, gas mask, and air blower.
At 14:00, the group of workers opened the lid of the pit, pumped out the water and used a toxic gas blower. At 2:45 p.m., Mr. Vu Dinh Nhan wore protective gear and a gas mask into the pump pit. However, due to the large amount of toxic gas, he fainted.
Discovering the incident, Mr. Tran Trong Hien went down to assist and also suffered asphyxiation. Vice-captain Pham Son Lam and Mr. Dinh Hong Giang then went down to the rescue and encountered the same situation.
At 15:30, the rescue force brought all four people to the ground and transferred to Quang Ninh General Hospital for emergency.
