NASA said this particular fireball was traveling 56,000km/h (scientists had previously estimated it was traveling at 85,500km/h) when it exploded in the sky near the Louisiana border- Mississippi.

“There have been confirmed reports of meteorites found in the area east of Natchez County,” NASA announced when sharing an image of a meteorite in a Facebook post.

It is reported that the fireball exploded with “the equivalent of 3 tons of TNT” over a swampy area in Louisiana. Its rock fragments fell to the ground at a speed of 321-482 km/h.

“Current law states that meteors that land on someone’s home belong to them. Out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the location of these findings.” , according to NASA’s Facebook post.

According to Radio CBSNASA asks people not to send pieces of space rock to the agency for analysis, but recommends a website about meteorites operated by the University of Washington.

By page Geology.com, the rarest and most special meteorites can be purchased for $1,000/gram. Uncategorized black space rocks or chondrites (which appear to be similar to those that fell in Mississippi last week) typically have the lowest prices, around $0.50 a gram.
