Turning the handheld GameCube concept nearly 20 years ago into a “real product”

Being able to bring your console anywhere has always been a dream for gamers. However, to be able to do that, they must be “transform” quite cumbersome, but a YouTuber named GingerOfOz succeeded in creating a compact handheld GameCube, based on a concept that appeared on the internet in 2005.

Turning a console into a mobile product was difficult, but forcing it to follow a pattern that never really existed took the challenge to a whole new level.

The nearly 20-minute video details the process of GingerOfOz creating a console based solely on concept images, showing the device from a single perspective. Some aspects of the original concept cannot be reproduced in reality, for example the hinge, GingerOfOz instead made it similar to the Nintendo DS for a more comfortable display angle, the joystick part also had to be. replaced with a 3DS model so that the screen can actually be closed.

The biggest sacrifice, however, is the lack of a workable drive. The drive components are too big for this actual product, although GingerOfOz still leaves the disc slot to fit the concept, it just doesn’t work.

Finally, GingerOfOz doesn’t really make a portable GameCube. Instead, he used the Wii, which uses less power, is physically smaller, easier to mod, and more affordable. Even so, Ginger has managed to add some unique GameCube software, including the launch icon.

GingerOfOz’s product looks almost exactly like the original concept from nearly 20 years ago and can play GameCube games, it has about an hour and a half of battery life.

The concept was originally created by someone with the nickname Demond. This person said it was created for entertainment purposes only and as a way to practice rendering products in Autodesk 3D Studio Max. GingerOfOz looked to Demond for more information during the product making process, but unfortunately the high-quality image files were no longer available and he had to use his own imagination to complete the machine.
