Overcoming the guilt of the past, the owner of the farm raised 10,000 super eggs to collect billions

The people of Thach Van commune all admired the energy of Mr. Tran Dinh Truong – who overcame the guilt of imprisonment and became a rich farm owner. They called him with a witty and proud name “Duck School”.

At the age of 43, Mr. Truong has a farm of more than 5,000 m2 in Thach Van commune (Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh province) raising over ten thousand egg-laying ducks, earning a profit of 1 billion VND per year. The fortune he currently has is the desire and desire of many people.

However, behind that proud achievement, few people know that he has experienced bitter, tormented days, blaming himself for the guilt of being in prison.

Truong confided, 17 years ago, when he turned 27, was working as a security guard for a local company, he had a conflict with some workers. Due to anger, he called more friends from the same hometown to beat his face and take revenge. The scuffle sent several people to the hospital, while he and nine others were arrested.

The investigating agency determined that Truong was the mastermind. After the trial, he was sentenced to 2 years in prison by the People’s Court of Thach Ha district for “disturbing public order”.

Since being put in the cell, Truong has always tormented himself and feels that the life ahead is full of darkness.

“At that time, I was newly married, my wife was pregnant and was about to give birth. Thinking about this time brings tears to my eyes. Loving his wife, loving his children and feeling guilty, thinking about the moment of impatience pushed his friends into labor. I feel regretful and helpless, but because of my wife and family’s encouragement, I try to improve well so that I can return to rebuild my life soon,” Truong said.

Entering the prison, Mr. Truong and dozens of other inmates were assigned to work at the sub-camp in Thach Lien commune, Thach Ha district. While cutting grass and gathering banana leaves, Truong met a man named Son, who owned a poultry farm near the Gia River. Through the conversation, Truong asked Mr. Son “What else can bring high economic efficiency” and received the answer “raise a duck“.

Son’s answer hovered in Truong’s memory. He aspires to be released from prison to experiment with duck farming to see if it is “economically effective as Son said”.

After a good period of reform, Truong was released from prison 4 months ahead of time. Returning to his hometown for a short time, he thought, “I have to redo my life, but I can’t stay like that forever”.

Thinking is doing, he started his business from duck farming. He leased 5,000m2 of farmland in Bac Van village, Thach Van commune and borrowed more than 20 million VND from friends and relatives to build a barn and raise 500 experimental ducks.

Duck farming has brought him a prosperous life

In the early days, due to inexperience in raising ducks, the number of ducks he raised gradually died, and the money from selling duck eggs was not enough to pay the loan. But even so, Truong still did not give up. Three years later, his duck breeding model was initially successful thanks to learning and drawing experience from books, the Internet, neighboring breeding models…

Just like that, he replicated his breeding model and earned a high profit from raising ducks to lay eggs. To date, his model has more than ten thousand super-egg ducks. Every year, he earns a profit of 500 million to 1 billion dong from selling duck eggs, creating stable jobs for 6 local people with an income of 4 to 11 million dong per month.

“Last year, after deducting all expenses, food, medicine,… I made a profit of nearly 1 billion VND from duck eggs. Now, I find this job quite interesting and brings high economic efficiency, just like Mr. Son said in the past”, Mr. Truong said humorously.

Mr. Truong said that duck farming also faces many risks because ducks are susceptible to diseases such as flu and pasteurellosis.

“Because it is easy to get diseases, it is necessary to choose carefully from the seed stage to the care stage. When starting to release ducks, they must be fully vaccinated to avoid diseases, death is lost,” Truong said.

Referring to his past, Mr. Truong said: “I myself do not feel embarrassed or shy when it comes to that time. I think that unhappy past has motivated me to strive to be who I am today. I want to inspire young people, who have been caught in prison, to be strong and determined to live well and rebuild their lives.”
