Last month, Apple was granted a patent for an in-display fingerprint sensor. This leads to speculations that the iPhone 14 model may be equipped with Touch ID hidden under the screen.

However, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the possibility that Apple’s new iPhone will be equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor is still far away.

Apple will not use Touch ID technology on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models released in 2023 and 2024, Face ID will be the only biometric option to unlock the device, Kuo said.

Previously, Mr. Kuo had predicted that Apple could launch an iPhone with Touch ID under the screen in 2023 (iPhone 15), but now the analyst thinks that is unlikely. The reason is said to be that the current under-screen fingerprint recognition technology has not been as good as Apple expected.

As for the major changes of the new iPhones this year, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will remove the “rabbit ears” part of the screen, replacing it with a pill-shaped “perforated” style. The camera sensor is also expected to be upgraded to 48MP instead of just 12MP.
