Do Hung Dung is the captain of U23 Vietnam

Do Hung Dung, striker Nguyen Tien Linh and midfielder Nguyen Hoang Duc are three players over 23 years old selected by Coach Park Hang-seo to attend the 31st SEA Games. One day after the reunion, the trio practiced for the first time at the SEA Games. Vietnam youth football training center on the afternoon of April 15.

Before going to the training ground, Coach Park announced the appointment of Hung Dung as captain, although he had previously assigned this responsibility to Ly Cong Hoang Anh. Binh Dinh’s players will be vice captains with Tien Linh.

Hung Dung is currently the captain of the Vietnamese team. He was assigned this role to replace central defender Que Ngoc Hai right after returning to Australia in the 2022 World Cup qualifier on January 27.

Hung Dung was one of three overage players at the 30th SEA Games. He was the vice-captain, then was promoted to captain instead of injured Nguyen Quang Hai in the Singapore match in the group stage. Hung Dung played an important role in the achievement of Vietnam winning the gold medal for the first time. He assisted Doan Van Hau to open the scoring and double the lead, as Vietnam beat Indonesia 3-0 in the final.

“Whether I’m the captain or the vice-captain, I also aim for the same goal with the whole team,” Hung Dung shared before the training session on the afternoon of April 15. “This is just the beginning of the rally. We need about three to four more weeks to prepare. The current group of Vietnam has Indonesia, the Philippines and Myanmar. Those are the competitors for the place. In addition, the teams in Group B like Thailand are also well prepared and determined. They want to win the highest achievement in the 31st SEA Games and so is Vietnam.”

Vietnam will play its opening match against Indonesia on June 5 at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho).
