France’s CPI rises to the highest level in nearly 40 years

According to data just released by the French Institute of Statistics and Economic Research (INSEE) on April 15, this country’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) in March 2022 increased by 4.5% over the same period last year. 2021, to the highest level since December 1985.

According to INSEE, CPI in March 2022 increased sharply mainly due to the increase in prices of petroleum, electricity, food and services.

Prices of petroleum products in France in March 2022 increased by 43.5% compared to February, mainly due to the sharp increase in prices of diesel, gasoline and liquid fuels. General energy prices in March 2022 increased by 29.2% over the same period in 2021.

On the same day, the French Ministry of Labor announced to increase the basic salary by 2.65% from May 1 to support households average income in the context of a sharp increase in CPI.

Specifically, the monthly minimum wage in France for full-time workers will increase from 1,603.12 euros ($1,732.98) to 1,645.58 euros. The hourly minimum wage has also increased from 10.57 euros to 10.85 euros.

According to a report by INSEE, CPI for the group of middle-income households in France increased by 2.65% in the period from November 2021 to March 2022.
