When she got home, she looked up information and found out that this is a butternut squash variety, also known as a pea squash, a pumpkin variety originating from abroad. The price of avocado squash is quite high, the design is beautiful, and the food is quite delicious, so Ms. Tien decided to take the seeds to nurse and plant avocado.

Thuy Tien sowed 10 seeds and the result was 10 plants. Tien has planted a few pots on the terrace. She has just grown avocados, and has to learn how to care for, water, and fertilize.
After nearly 3 months of experimenting with avocado squash, the results were surprising, the avocado rig at Mrs. Tien’s house was full of fruit like a herd of piglets. There are so many squash and avocados that my family has to pick them and give them to neighbors and relatives, everyone compliments them on how delicious they are.
The avocado tree has a lot of fruit because Thuy Tien diligently pollinates the flowers every morning.
Ms. Tien said that avocado squash is a short-term, fast-producing squash. After about 1.5 months, the tree begins to bear fruit. After 2.5 – 3 months can be harvested. Each tree will produce many fruits in the leaf axils on the main branch. The pumpkin body is small, the main body is on average 3-4m long, no need to cut the top because the fruit grows on the main body.
In particular, with a narrow space on the terrace like her house, it is very convenient to grow pumpkins in pots or styrofoam boxes, both to obtain clean vegetables and to take advantage of the cool green space of the house.
How to grow avocado squash and care for it to produce fruit
Below is sharing about the experience of growing avocado squash and how to care for it to be pest-free, after the fruit of Ms.
– Seed incubation and seed incubation: Tien’s seeds soak in warm water for 6 hours, then take them out and put them in a zip bag to incubate, leave for about 1 day when the seeds are cracked and put into the nursery. After 10 days of incubation, she planted a pot or a foam box.

– Planting land: Choose loose, nutrient-rich soil (if you use old soil, you must treat pathogens first). Thuy Tien mixes rice husk ash to increase porosity, mixes it with cow manure, vermicompost, or if there is kitchen waste, you can mix Tricoderma antagonistic fungi and bury it in the soil.
The ratio of soil 60% – loose matter 20% – organic fertilizer 20%.
– Fertilizing: After planting in a pot for 7-10 days, Ms. Tien fertilizes the tree to grow quickly and produce fruit. She mixes the above organic fertilizers and fertilizes around the base.
If there is self-composting such as fish protein, soy protein, banana juice, etc., then irrigate once every 5 days. The flowering and fruiting stage needs more fertilizer, so it is possible to adjust the amount of watering to make the tree grow stronger.

– Pollination: Ms. Thuy Tien said that female flowers will grow from letter 8 onwards, each squash plant can produce more than 3 female flowers on the main stem. When the female flowers bloom, pollination should be carried out by taking the pistil of the male palm flower. close to the ovary of the female flower. Pollination is most effective from 6-8 am.
– Prevention: Pumpkin plants are very susceptible to disease if they are sucked by thrips and whiteflies. Therefore, growers need to prevent insects by using emulsified neem oil, a non-toxic microbial organic drug that both prevents diseases and increases plant resistance.
Periodically, Thuy Tien sprays once a week, or sprays in the early morning or cool afternoon. During the period of healthy fruit trees, there is no need to spray anymore.
Thanks to hard work growing avocado squash and many other vegetables on the terrace, Ms. Thuy Tien has provided enough clean food for her family.
– Cut: Ms. Thuy Tien emphasized, pruning is also quite important for the tree to concentrate nutrients. After pollination, the tree begins to bear fruit, she prunes old leaves from the base up, removes extra branches or leaves showing signs of disease (yellowing, speckled white, yellow, …)
– Harvest: After pollination, the fruit is light green in color, will gradually change color and turn yellow-orange. When the fruit turns dark, the squash is old and can be harvested. Or calculated by time, can be harvested after 6 weeks of pollination.
In addition to having fruit to eat, the avocado rig also helps the yard garden space to be more green.
