The pig farm was struck by lightning, on the afternoon of May 12.

Urgently complete the application, immediately support livestock households

Talking to reporters about the above incident, on the morning of May 14, Mr. Dinh Van Thuy, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thai Binh province said that right after the incident happened, the industry delegation had directly down to the scene to capture information about the damage.

Currently, the Department has assigned specialized branches – Sub-Department of Irrigation, Sub-Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine to advise and develop specific support plans to submit to Thai Binh Provincial People’s Committee.

“We are completing the application very quickly. Natural disaster is to urgently support, if it is slow, what is the meaning?” Mr. Thuy expressed his opinion.

Pham Thanh Nhuong, Director of the Sub-Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine, said that if the plan is approved, Mr. Hoang Van Nha’s household will be supported according to Decree 02. /2017/ND-CP, for livestock damaged by natural disasters over 28 days old, support from 450,000 – 1,000,000 VND/head.

Nha’s case will be applied at the highest level of support 1,000,000/head, and with 229 dead pigs, a total support of 229 million VND will be given.

Mr. Nha’s pig farm was built according to a modern closed breeding model, with a cost of hundreds of millions of dong.

“In order to reproduce a farm of this size, the first thing to do is to remodel the barn system. But with the amount of support above, as far as I know, it is barely enough to buy pigs. the same, if calculated according to the current price”, Mr. Nhuong said.

With the participation of all levels and local branches, the Director of the Sub-Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine said that it will only be about next week that Mr. Nha’s family will receive support.

“With the spirit of urgency, quickly get involved. We went to the place and urged the local authorities. I called the Vice Chairman of the District People’s Committee to report on the rush to complete the dossier, the brothers handed over the documents. change that by the beginning of the week, it will be finished,” said Mr. Nguyen Bao Khuong, Director of Thai Binh Irrigation Sub-Department, which directly advises the Director of the Department on the case.

The old farmer is determined to get rich in his native land

It is known that before Mr. Nha’s incident, in the province, there was once a white chicken farm that was struck by lightning and killed 7,000 chickens. The reason was that the electrical system was short-circuited due to lightning, poultry was raised in a closed system of cages, leading to suffocation.

Mr. Nha’s case is similar to the above case, due to the modern design of the barn, an area of about 600m2, covered with a corrugated iron roof with insulation and heat-resistant foam for the pigs. When lightning struck the electric pole near the barn, it caused an electrical short in the cooling fan system. After that, the entire area of the foam corrugated iron roof was burnt down, the amount of smoke emitted was so dense that the pigs suffocated and died.

The 600m2 modern pig barn area was destroyed after being struck by lightning.

The number of dead pigs corresponds to more than 30 tons of pork, then, although hundreds of people in neighboring areas came to the rescue, the salvage amount was not much. Only a few dozen pigs are sold for 20,000 VND/kg, a pig heavier than a quintal will sell for about 2 million VND. The rest is mostly smoky, as if it’s half-baked, people don’t buy it. The owner of the farm had to both sell and give, from several hundred thousand to more than one million dong a child.

According to reporters, this is not the first time Mr. Nha has suffered such heavy damage. Previously, in 2019, due to the influence of African swine fever, his family had to destroy at least 14 tons of infected pigs. In the past few years, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, there was a time when the price of live pork dropped dramatically to just over 30,000 VND/kg, causing many pig generations of his family to have negative capital.

The steadfast look of the old farmer after many events.

Despite the heavy damage caused by the epidemic and the erratic fluctuations of the pork market, Mr. Nha has never faltered. And with the will to rise out of poverty and get rich in his native land, Mr. Nha even mortgaged his red book to borrow bank loans, borrowed more from many relatives to invest in a pig farm model. closed modern.

The farm is equipped with a water cooling system, an exhaust fan, an automatic feeding and drinking trough, an automatic temperature control system, all of which are observed through a camera system. Such a closed model helps the pig herd not to come into direct contact with disease sources from outside (blue ear, foot-and-mouth disease, pneumonia, swine cholera).

However, for a herd of 300 pigs, the cost of raising until slaughter (5 months) is equivalent to 1.2 billion VND (average 4 million VND/head). And if all factors are favorable (no epidemic, stable market prices), Mr. Nha’s family can only profit 1 million dong/child, otherwise most of them break even and even have negative capital. , fell into debt.

Mr. Nha’s farm is isolated from the residential area, in the field of Tran Phu village (Tay Do commune), right under the 220kV high voltage transmission line.

Looking forward to receiving support soon, creating favorable conditions for loans to rebuild

Despite such unremitting efforts, even though he dared to think and turn into actions, up to this moment, after encountering the above risk, the total debt of his family has reached VND 3 billion, the current red number is VND 3 billion. Still have a mortgage in the bank. Worried about these problems, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thong (54 years old), his wife Nha cried, skipped meals and still have not dared to go to the pig farm.

Seeing his wife’s situation like that, Mr. Nha also had a moment to give up everything but if he fell, who would be the one to steer this family. Four mouths rely on pig farming and the farm is also creating stable jobs for two workers in the village (salary from 5 to 6 million dong).

Looking back at the remnants of the lightning strike, in Mr. Nha’s heart still boiled a will to conquer fate and never be allowed to fall. “I still want to rebuild this farm, continue to re-herd… to make up for the lost damage,” said Mr. Nha.

Mr. Nha’s moment of dismay when he watched the entire property built for many years being burned by lightning.

Accordingly, he estimated the cost to be able to restore production is estimated at about 1 billion VND. Of which 500 million dong to rebuild the farm system; the remaining amount is the cost of animal feed, veterinary medicine, disinfectant, electricity and water, labor… until the pig is released from the barn.

As for the breeding stock, which is also the most expensive part, he is lucky to have a farm with more than 60 sows in breeding season. These piglets will be reared at the new farm – if promptly supported and borrowed capital to repair and rebuild.

In these days, Mr. Nha has also contacted the bank that he has outstanding debt in the district to ask for more loans, but it is not clear if it will be resolved or not.

Mr. Nha called many places to ask about borrowing money and planning to rebuild the farm.

Talking to reporters before this wish, Mr. Vu Van Hanh, Vice Chairman of Hung Ha District People’s Committee said: “This matter, the family has not shared with us. Next week, we will go to work, If he wishes to continue reproducing, we will suggest to banks who can consider and create conditions for him to borrow money to reproduce again.”

Sharing more about the incident, Mr. Hanh said that as soon as the incident happened, the district delegation came to encourage and share with the family. Currently, the district is coordinating with specialized departments and branches to soon complete the dossier and send it to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and submit it to the Provincial People’s Committee for consideration and support according to regulations.

Along with that, the district People’s Committee asked the district Fatherland Front to consider visiting and encouraging the family about 10 million VND. As for other sources, because it is a holiday, the District People’s Committee will be able to call for support at the beginning of the week for the case of Mr. Hoang Van Nha’s household.
