VinFast electric cars are fined for overtime parking, what about petrol cars?

In recent times, the electric vehicle user community in Vietnam is quite upset when many electric vehicle charging stations are occupied by gasoline cars as parking places. This leaves people who need to charge electric vehicles with no place to park.

This is one of the pressing problems for electric vehicle users and the pain of finding solutions from VinFast. At this time, the number of electric vehicles is still limited, but only about half a year when VinFast VF8 and VF9 are delivered to customers, this is a completely different story.

For electric vehicles, after fully charged, the vehicle will only be parked at the location of the charging station for 30 minutes, from the 31st minute onwards, when the battery is full but customers still occupy the charging station’s place, they will be fined 1,000/minute (single charge). Prices do not include VAT).

The Vietnamese car company can manage and collect tolls when customers’ electric vehicles park past the specified time through the software. This is considered a strong form of VinFast to prevent the electric vehicle charging station area from being misused as a parking space.

However, with gasoline cars parked at electric vehicle charging stations, VinFast is still in the process of researching and testing a solution to avoid inconvenience for customers. To date, there is no optimal solution to limit this situation.

As noted by reporter Dan Viet, recently, VinFast is piloting the placeholder lock installed at the first 3 charging stations in Hanoi including: Vincom Mega Mall Smart City in Tay Mo, Vincom Times City and Vinhomes Riverside Long Bien.

The placeholder lock is a temporary solution of VinFast to restrict petrol cars from using the charging station as a parking place because when you want to use it, users will have to have a key to open it to enter the charging station. This is not considered the optimal solution to completely solve this situation.

This device includes a base mounted in front of each charging post, the yellow lock will be raised up to 75mm to limit the vehicle entering this area.

When a vehicle enters the charging station, the placeholder lock will emit an alarm sound like a car sensor for the driver to detect. To lower the lock, the driver needs to have a remote control and when he wants to charge.

Along with that, each VinFast charging station is now equipped with a camera to monitor in order to promptly detect and prevent illegal parking of petrol cars.

According to Dan Viet’s own source, VinFast is conducting research on a placeholder lock that automatically recognizes electric vehicles when charging through new technology instead of the current manual control unlocking method. This is considered the optimal solution to limit the situation where the charging station area is occupied as a place where vehicles are parked for the wrong purpose.
