Death penalty for the man who used a hammer to kill a former police officer because of the incident 8 years ago

The People’s Court of Binh Thuan province this morning (May 24) opened a first-instance court hearing and sentenced Nguyen Van Ngoc (40 years old) to death for murder.

Ngoc was the one who caused the case of using a hammer to hit the head of Mr. Nguyen Van Hoan (43 years old, former police officer of Hong Son commune, Ham Thuan Bac district) in October last year, causing a stir in local public opinion.

According to the indictment, on the afternoon of October 18, 2021, Nguyen Van Ngoc went from his house to the water and electricity shop in hamlet 3, Hong Son commune to buy nails. Here, Ngoc saw Mr. Nguyen Van Hoan playing chess with Mr. Bui Van Chinh (owner of the electric and water shop) at the stone table and chairs in front of the shop.

At this time, Ngoc recalled that in 2013, Mr. Hoan, then a police officer of Hong Son commune, participated in solving the case that Ms. D.TL accused Ngoc of raping and hitting people, causing minor injuries. Angry, Ngoc used a hammer to repeatedly hit Hoan on the head, causing the victim to collapse on the spot and die.

After committing the crime, Ngoc rode a motorbike to an irrigation lake about 4km away from the scene, then threw the hammer into the lake. Then, Ngoc went to Phan Thiet City Police to surrender.

At the trial this morning, Ngoc sincerely confessed his crime. The jury said that Ngoc’s crime showed a thug, blatantly depriving others of life, so the strictest sentence was needed.

After the deliberation period, the trial panel imposed the death sentence for Nguyen Van Ngoc.
