President Zelensky extends martial law in Ukraine

Announcement of the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) Ukraine announced that President Volodymyr Zelensky on March 20 signed a bill to extend martial law state in Ukraine for 30 days starting from March 26.

The announcement states that the President of Ukraine has approved a decree on the extension of martial law in Ukraine. The law will extend the period of war in Ukraine from 5:30 a.m. on March 26, 2022 for a period of 30 days.

Martial law allows the Ukrainian military to impose a curfew, set up military checkpoints and restrict the freedom of movement of citizens, foreigners, and vehicles.

In his daily address to the Ukrainian people, President Zelensky also proposed holding talks with Russia in Israel. Specifically, the President of Ukraine highly appreciated Israel’s efforts to mediate between Russia and Ukraine. At the same time, Zelensky affirmed that if negotiations between the two leaders of Russia and Ukraine take place, he wants this meeting to be held in Israel.

According to Mr. Zelensky, the two leaders Ukraine and Russia who played a key role in reaching an agreement to end the war has entered its fourth week. Mr. Zelensky also signaled that he would issue “red lines” on the issue of territorial integrity, including two independence zones in the East.
