Searching for the black box

The crashed plane had two black boxes, one in the cockpit and one in the tail, to record various data. The search for the black boxes is an important task so that the authorities can soon find the cause of the accident.

Aircraft black boxes are usually bright orange in color. They are built to withstand explosions, high temperatures, immersion in water… Black box batteries have a lifespan of about 30 days.

A China Eastern Airlines official said the airline contacted the families of 132 people on board within 24 hours of the crash. A team of more than 160 professionals was dispatched to assist the bereaved.

The US supports the investigation

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), a US government agency responsible for investigating civil traffic accidents, said on Twitter Tuesday that it has assigned a safety investigator to the site. all high-level airlines to China to assist with the investigation.

The NTSB said the investigation would be led by the Civil Aviation Administration of China. Representatives from Boeing, engine manufacturer CFM and US experts will act as technical advisors.
