During a press conference after talks with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, President Vladimir Putin affirmed that images and videos of corpses in plain clothes were found in the area. Bucha is “fake”.

The Russian leader compared the incident in Bucha to what happened in Syria, when the West staged chemical attacks on civilians to blame Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

“What’s in Bucha is the same kind of forgery,” Putin said at a press conference on April 12, adding that Belarus had provided some documents related to the “provocation in Bucha”.

Moscow denies Kiev’s accusations and the West says Russian troops have killed hundreds of civilians in Bucha, a town located near Kiev.

According to the head of Bucha, as of April 12, more than 400 bodies of plainclothes people have been found in mass graves or scattered on the road.

The Russian side accused Ukraine of orchestrating everything in Bucha to blame Moscow, delaying negotiations with Russia.

In a press conference on April 12, President Putin described negotiations with Ukraine as falling into a “dead end” because Kiev changed what the two sides agreed in Istanbul (Turkey).

“The two sides reached some agreement and Ukraine announced that future security guarantees would not apply to Crimea, Sevastopol and Donbass. But then they changed their minds,” Putin explained.

According to the Russian president, Ukraine is changing its stance again and he was informed about the incident on the night of April 11.

The Ukrainian government says it will not give up its territory and sovereignty in exchange for peace. The Crimean peninsula and the city of Sevastopol were annexed by Russia after the 2014 referendum.

Moscow wants Kiev to recognize this as Russian territory and the two regions of Donetsk and Lugansk in eastern Ukraine as independent countries.

It is not yet clear when further negotiations will take place. Negotiators from Russia and Ukraine met face-to-face in Turkey on March 29.

Russia will “calmly” continue its military operation in Ukraine

During a press conference on April 12, President Putin affirmed that the country’s army would “calmly and smoothly act” in the military operation in Ukraine as originally planned.

The Russian leader also said that he would not increase the intensity of military operations in Ukraine to minimize the loss of civilians. The activities of the Russian military, according to Putin, are to contain the Ukrainian army and only target the military infrastructure, thereby supporting military operations in the Donbass.
