The home of the Louisiana governor’s lieutenant burned, caught fire

A home for the Louisiana governor’s lieutenant colonel was burned and set on fire, a representative for his office said Tuesday.

Betsy Barnes, a press secretary for his office, said Lieutenant Colonel Billy Nungesser’s home in Plaquemines Parish was broken into on Thursday.

The suspect stole sports memorabilia, collectibles and some items belonging to his father, a once famous Louisiana politician.

Barnes said the home was also damaged by smoke from the fire. The break-in is not believed to be politically motivated.

Barnes said that Nungesser and his wife were not living in the home at the time of the robbery, Barnes said. The 65-acre home is for sale but they haven’t moved some of the furniture out yet.

Nungesser told NBC affiliate WDSU of New Orleans that he reported the incident to the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The office told WDSU it has an interested person, but did not release the name.
