“With the selling price of 50,000 – 51,000 VND/kg, farmers are not profitable, so they are not interested in re-herding. The whole commune now has nearly 100 households with about 15,000 pigs, down 80% compared to before Tet. Mr. Chung said.

At the livestock and poultry wholesale market in Ha Nam province, the price of live pigs transported by traders to trade in delicious and beautiful varieties is 55,000 VND/kg, the average type is 52,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 – 2,000 VND/kg compared to the previous year. with the end of 2021.

Mr. Nguyen Van Cao, a trader in village 3, Boi Cau commune, said that for more than a month now, the trading and transportation of pigs has been very sparse. “Currently, few traders come to buy, so every day I can only sell 20 tons, down about 30 tons compared to more than 3 months ago. “With the selling price from 90,000 to 130,000 VND/kg of finished meat of all kinds, small traders have made too much profit, while farmers have to suffer single and double losses because of the price of animal feed, effort and investment in barns. but hog prices are too low, and consumers have to buy at too high a price. In fact, with the current live pig price, pork belly is only at 95,000 VND/kg, butt and shoulder are 90,000 VND/kg, ribs 70,000 VND/kg is reasonable. Mr. Chung said.

Mr. Chung said that the lower the price of live pigs, the more profit traders and retailers at wholesale markets will make, while consumers and breeders have to suffer.

“In fact, even though the price of live hogs is low, the slaughterhouses never reduce the price, and retail traders in the market also use that excuse not to lower the retail price, or even if it does, it will only drop. Unless the price of pork meat drops too low, 17,000 – 18,000 VND/kg as in 2017 – 2018 and there are no buyers, they will reduce. Mr. Chung said.

A survey by PV VTC News on April 20 at many markets in Hanoi such as Tu Hiep market (Thanh Tri), Green market (Cau Giay), Lang Ha market (Dong Da),… the prices of all kinds of pork are going up. at a high level, there is a clear sign of rapid increase: bacon ranges from 135,000 – 150,000 VND/kg; butt meat, shoulder price 120,000 – 135,000 VND/kg; thigh meat ranges from 130,000 to 140,000 VND/kg.

When asked, many small traders confirmed that the increase in live hog prices made their imports from slaughterhouses also increase, so they were forced to raise the retail price. However, the question is that when the price of live pork decreases, the price of meat is still high, the seller blames the “cost-consuming” intermediaries or because the price of gasoline increases.
