Robotax introduced as a fully autonomous vehicle for 4 passengers. The bodywork is cubic with large black sliding doors and floor-to-ceiling windows.

The speaker uses radio wave technology to help direct the waves at a specific target instead of spreading over an entire area (Beamforming technology). This technology is intended to give an audible warning to inattentive pedestrians. However, this warning is only a polite “ping” and is much more pleasant than a car horn.

The product of the Amazon Corporation subsidiary is also equipped with a 60-watt USB-C port with enough power to charge a 15-inch MacBook.

A total of 4 seats, each robotaxi seat has a 7-inch screen (equivalent to an iPhone). The simple interface allows passengers to operate the vehicle’s four-zone climate control system.

Passengers can also check their route and change to their favorite music. Each chair also comes with a wireless charging dock and a 60-watt USB-C port.

The shape of the car is square, sleek, without the front and rear of the car. Instead, the robotaxi is two-way symmetrical with the same profile with cameras, lights, speakers, and large windows on either side.

“Internally, we call the two ends of the vehicle the North and the South,” Zoox co-founder and CTO Jesse Levinson said in an interview on the conference stage.

The design has a sensor block on each corner of the robotaxi, allowing the vehicle to see in all directions. Angular architecture helps “see things from every angle”. “The shape of the car is perfect for autonomous driving because each sensor has a 270-degree field of view. Every corner of the car has sensors placed, so not only can everything see 360 degrees, but also have a field of view. Overlapping helps us see everything around the car,” asserts co-founder Jesse Levinson.

In fact, Zoox unveiled the robotaxi in December 2020, during a closed course in San Francisco. The company is working towards making fully autonomous robotaxi safe and legal on public roads.
