Photographer Phoo Chan captures the aerial encounter between great falcons and brown pelicans at Torrey Pines Beach, San Diego, California. Mail reported on May 23. Phoo takes pictures from a distance of 30 meters and the interaction between them takes place within a second.

A flock of small brown pelicans flew near a large falcon’s nest, Phoo said. In a split second, the father bird flew out and kicked a pelican in the back with a powerful kick, sending it lurching downward, trying to escape the attack.

“The great falcon is protecting the nest from any birds that get too close. Shocked and injured, the brown pelican still manages to escape. Very few attacks result in loss of life, depending on whether the pelican is attacked. in which body part,” he explained.

Large cut (Falco peregrinus) is a raptor that can reach speeds of more than 320 km / h when plunging to prey. Renowned for its incredible speed, it is the fastest bird in the world, as well as the fastest animal. They have a wingspan of more than 1 m, often hunting birds and bats.

Meanwhile, the brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) is a large seabird with a heavy body and slow flight. They usually eat the eggs and young of other birds. With a wingspan of 1.8 – 2.1 m, brown pelicans reach speeds of about 50 km/h.

“This kind of snapshot tests your reflexes and agility. It’s only when you look at the details on your computer screen that you can tell exactly what happened. The naked eye can’t provide that. Such accuracy simply because it happened so quickly,” said Phoo.

“Understanding basic bird behavior often helps prepare you to get good shots. For example, a bird’s body language will tell you it’s ready to take off from its perch. It is important to understand and respect nature so that people can continue to enjoy this passion in the future,” he shared.
