Great white shark steals fisherman’s fish

In a video recorded in the waters off Porto de Santo Antonio Noronha in the Fernando de Noronha archipelago (Brazil), fisherman Felipe Rogerio is closely followed by a shark.

The predator rushes to attack the fishing line 3 times. It successfully took 2 coneys and nibbled some meat from the thorny rockfish.

“The fishermen who participate in this type of fishing in Noronha are not allowed to prevent sharks from getting close to the fish that bite the hook“, said Rafael Mesquita Ferreira, owner of the video.

According to Ferreira, the shark swam after smelling the blood of the fish on the line.

The shark in the video is medium sized. Other than taking the bait, it doesn’t have any interaction with Rogerio.

The Brazilian sharp-nosed shark is usually much smaller than most other sharks. Their maximum size when normally adults does not exceed 0.8 m.

Although it is a protected animal on the Fernando de Noronha archipelago, its numbers are declining due to overfishing, water pollution and plastic waste.
