Volkswagen recalls more than 100,000 vehicles equipped with plug-in-hybrid engines
The German automaker has just released recall information for more than 100,000 vehicles equipped with plug-in-hybrid engines.
Volkswagen Group announced that it will recall more than 100,000 plug-in-hybrid vehicles including many brands of Audi, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen due to a fire risk. Specifically, this recall has a total of 42,300 Volkswagen vehicles on the list of Passat, Golf, Tiguan and Arteon models. For Audi, 24,400 vehicles are available, while the exact number of Seat and Skoda vehicles affected is not yet known.
The cause, said by the manufacturer, comes from the poor quality of the battery insulation on plug-in hybrid models. Batteries can become hot during use and cause a fire if the insulation is not working properly.
Currently, there are 16 cases of incidents due to the above error in Germany. To overcome, the recalled vehicles will have an additional insulation layer on the battery pack. In February 2021, a VW Golf GTE plug-in hybrid exploded while driving. The car has only been used for 2 days and has only traveled 300 km. The incident caused property damage of nearly 50,000 USD, equivalent to more than 1.1 billion VND.
