On the morning of May 26, the People’s Committee of Quang Nam province held a dialogue conference with tourism businesses to remove difficulties in recovery after the COVID-19 epidemic.

Answering this issue, Mr. Nguyen Minh Ly – Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People’s Committee, admitted that the traffic jam in Hoi An ancient town has been going on for many years, culminating in 2019, the city is calculating not only immediate but long-term measures.

Enterprises contribute ideas at the dialogue

According to Mr. Ly, the peculiarity of Hoi An’s streets is that it is very small, it only takes two cars in opposite directions to cause traffic jams. Currently, when tourism reopens, the number of tourists has begun to flock to Hoi An, but mainly domestic tourists, most of them use personal vehicles, leading to traffic jams.

City leaders affirmed that they will solve the problem not only in the short term but in the long term, in the direction of expanding the central area without motor vehicles. The locality is also focusing on building parking lots to serve transit passengers before entering the old town.

In the immediate future, the city will invest in connecting a number of arterial roads from 60 Phan Dinh Phung to the main road Nguyen Tat Thanh, or through Dao Duy Tu to relieve traffic pressure for the center.

Hoi An also planned to rearrange the operation of boats on Hoai River to better fit the space of the old town; step up handling of the situation of tug of war affecting tourists.

At the conference, many opinions were raised stating the obstacles of tourism businesses when restarting, proposing solutions on continuing to extend the reduction of VAT and personal income tax until 2023; reduce land rent for service enterprises; rescheduling debt repayment, exempting and reducing loan interest, and freezing debt for businesses affected by the COVID-19 epidemic; refresh products to attract and retain customers…

Concluding the conference, Mr. Tran Van Tan – Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Nam province shared and understood the difficulties and problems of businesses. Mr. Tan suggested the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism and related sectors to absorb and solve the problem within the competence of the province. Proposals related to the central authority will be forwarded.

Besides the recommendations that will be received by the province, businesses need to apply and do well the set of green tourism criteria; promote tourism promotion with various forms such as social networks, through smart platforms; It is necessary to promote linkages and tourism development among localities, between state management agencies and enterprises.
