Technological solutions to traffic congestion in Israel

This is the affirmation of the company ITC (Intelligent Traffic Control), one of the enterprises in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) of Israel, when participating in the recent EcoMotion technology exhibition in Tel Aviv. This exhibition is a gathering place for high-tech and AI businesses with the hope of helping to develop more efficient and environmentally friendly transportation.

ITC uses an AI software to collect real-time data from traffic cameras, then send signals to traffic lights based on vehicle traffic. ITC co-founder and CTO Dvir Kenig said the software has shown to be effective in preventing traffic congestion, if timely intervention is made. Accordingly, two intersections using this system have recorded a 30% decrease in traffic volume.

ITC company believes that traffic congestion is a global problem, when statistics show that on average, each driver will spend about 3 days each year encountering this problem, while increasing emissions causing greenhouse effect. This problem is particularly acute in Israel. According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), transport infrastructure in Israel is seriously lagging behind most other members, while traffic congestion is among the worst in the OECD.

In addition to traffic control technology, AI software to warn motorcyclists of danger is one of the other outstanding initiatives at this EcoMotion exhibition. According to Rider Dome CEO Yoav Elgrichi, driver assistance technology is already common in almost every car, but motorcycles do not yet have this application. As a result, the company introduced dash cams mounted on the front and rear of the vehicle, integrating AI technology to warn drivers of surrounding hazards.
