In addition to funding heavy artillery, the Polish military also trains about 100 Ukrainian artillerymen to operate them, the radio explained. The 155mm cannon will provide firepower for three artillery batteries.

“Thanks to Polish aid, Ukraine now has at least 24 Western self-propelled artillery vehicles,” the broadcaster stated. According to reports, Polish cannons have reached Ukraine.

Kiev has received M777 155mm self-propelled howitzers from the US, as well as Harpoon anti-ship missiles from Denmark, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Alexey Reznikov said on May 28. France has also supplied six 155mm self-propelled howitzers named Caesar to Ukraine.

Like the M777 and Caesar, the AHS Krab is a standard NATO howitzer with a maximum range of about 40km. This gun was designed in Poland for the Polish army. The system is operated by a team of 5 and can fire up to 6 rounds per minute. The AHS Krab is manufactured by Polish defense contractor Huta Stalowa Wola.

Despite design flaws that resulted in hull cracking, engine overheating and leaking fuel exhaust systems, 96 AHS Krabs were in service as of last year.

The design of the howitzer is a combination of the Korean K9 Thunder chassis and the British AS-90M Braveheart turret.

Warsaw claims to be the second largest donor of military equipment to Ukraine, after the US. The weapons it provides include T-72 tanks, Gozdzik self-propelled howitzers, air-to-air missiles, drones and Grad rocket launchers. AHS Krab will allow the Ukrainian military to target Russian forces from a longer distance amid Moscow’s assault on the Donbass region.

Reznikov announced on May 28 that Ukraine would “win” in the conflict with Russia, thanks in part to foreign-supplied weapons. He stressed that the newly arrived Harpoon missiles will help Kiev regain control of the ports on the Black Sea.

Earlier, Russia declared Western weapons stockpiles in Ukraine a “legitimate target” and that Moscow would launch air strikes against them.
