Borneo Rainforest: An Iban Way of Life – River Fishing (English Subtitles)
The greatest experience in Borneo rainforest is when the Panggaudayak publishing house leads us to explore the fishing activities on the clear waters of the Layar River. This fishing activity uses fishing nets, one of the techniques inherited from generations many years ago. This is part of the Iban way of life to get food for subsistence. An Iban called it “nyala ikan” (spread a net) and “ngenan pukat” (lay out fishnets). In addition, we will explore the beauty of the scenery around the river bank of the Layar River, the clear and fresh water surface, and also observe the boat handling skills. Having said that, the River Layar had a long history since it was a transport medium before a Layar link road was built in the late 80’s.
