Luxury living in Vietnam… cheaper than the US

Page The Richest, which publishes information about the most expensive things in the world, has just made a list of the best cities to live in luxury on a cheap price. The benchmark for comparison is New York and a few other cities in the US, which are famous for their skyscrapers, super-rich people and lavish lifestyles. This list is intended for travelers looking for a place to move permanently or experience a short international vacation.

Website description: “Vietnam has developed rapidly over the past three decades. In the country’s most expensive cities, such as Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, a monthly budget of $1,500 is enough for two people to live comfortably. The average monthly cost per person, excluding rent, is $439 and with a higher budget, one can live in Vietnam for much less than in the US.”

Behind Vietnam – the city of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is also one of the most popular cities to find an affordable luxury lifestyle, as 1 liter of gasoline here costs less than 1 USD. The city has emerged as a producer of coffee, plastic, cloth and food and has been the center of Ethiopia’s culture and commerce in recent years. Rent here is also 50% cheaper than New York, a two-bedroom apartment costs about 200 USD.

A bit more expensive in Vietnam is Malaysia with the rent of a luxury beach house 3 bedrooms only 403 USD/month. If a traveler is injured and has to be hospitalized, their medical bill will only cost about 43 USD, which is much different from the price of an emergency room in the US.

The standard of living is higher than Malaysia which is Nicaragua’s capital Managua. Although this country is the second poorest in the world, the capital Managua is home to the headquarters of large businesses like Walmart. It is the financial center and many expats retire and settle down. The median rent for a two-bedroom apartment is $800 and the average cost for an individual is $540. In Managua, a liter of gasoline costs $1.23 and the cost of living is 58% lower than in the US. However, this capital has a rather high crime rate, so think before you move in.

Next on the list is Panama, where luxury living is cosmopolitan and not too far from the US. A city beachfront apartment costs about $1,500 per month, while rent, utilities, food, and entertainment come in at around $2,600 a month.

Lisbon, Portugal is a city with the lowest luxury living standards in Europe. This is also a place that makes it easy for foreigners to become citizens of the continent. The monthly cost of living for an individual is $623 and the rent in a quality place in the city can be as little as $550/month.
