Two more “super-large” power projects worth more than billions of dollars

On April 16, news from Dong Nai Department of Industry and Trade said that in 2022 and 2023, Dong Nai will respectively launch two large-scale power projects: Expansion of Tri An Hydropower Plant and Nhon Thermal Power Plant project. Trach 3 and 4.

The addition of large-scale power projects will contribute to ensuring the energy demand for Dong Nai and neighboring provinces and cities.

In which, Nhon Trach 3 and 4 thermal power plant project has an area of ​​​​nearly 54 hectares, with a total investment of about 1.4 billion USD, with a capacity of 1,500 MW.

This is the first thermal power project using liquefied natural gas fuel in Vietnam and the largest thermal power project in the South up to now.

This project has been approved by the Prime Minister for investment since 2019, is expected to start in early 2021, but due to space problems, it should be moved to 2022.

With Nhon Trach 3 and 4 thermal power plants project, the investor of PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power) said that the unit has completed the construction of fuel storage infrastructure located in Ba Ria province. – Vung Tau. In addition, the unit signed an EPC contract (design – procurement – construction – installation – test run and acceptance contract) with a joint venture contractor Samsung C&T Corporation, Vietnam Machinery Erection Corporation (Lilama). Some infrastructure items have started.

It is expected that the project will be completed and put into operation by the end of 2024 for Nhon Trach 3 and by the end of 2025 for Nhon Trach 4.

When put into use, each year the plant will supply the national grid with about 9 billion kWh, equal to about 60% of the total energy demand of Dong Nai province.

Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion Project is also the largest hydropower project in the South at the time of approval.

This project was assigned to Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) as an investor, with a scale of nearly 95ha, total investment of more than 3,900 billion VND, including 2 power units with a capacity of 200MW. The project is currently in the process of compensation and site clearance.
