Coach Park is afraid to evaluate Vietnam U-23 win

Coach Park Hang-seo for the third time in a row with Vietnamese football was present in the final round of Asia U-23.

He later said it was “slightly regrettable” that he only won minimally, but what was important was that the players tried their best and reached the goal. Overrated, however in the first half, Vietnam did not create the desired game and proved to have scarce chances against Myanmar. The players also made a bad impression with some exaggerated fouls, like striker Tran Van Dat’s elbow to Lin Htoe Soe, or midfielder Trong Long’s arm swinging into the face of another Myanmar player.

After the break, Coach Park pulled in striker Le Xuan Tu and midfielder Lieu Quang Vinh, and replaced them with Nham Manh Dung and Ho Thanh Minh. One of the two personnel changes was successful. In the 59th minute, Thanh Minh jumped to receive Nguyen Hai Long’s free kick, heading for the only goal. Coach Park commented: “Thanh Minh is playing in the First Division. While the team and I are focused on qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, he is training with the U23 team. Although there are still areas to improve, he also has many areas. If he works hard, I’m sure he will make a good Vietnam striker.”

After two full wins, scoring two goals and not conceding a single goal, Vietnam won a ticket to the 2022 AFC U23 Championship as the top of Group I.

After the tournament, Coach Park will fly straight back to Hanoi to join the national team to prepare for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. He and his students will receive Japan on 11/11 and Saudi Arabia six days later.

Vietnam are bottom of Group B after four defeats.
