CNN: City Video Mariupol ruined after the bombardment

Recently, CNN released a video of aerial footage of the Ukrainian city of Mariupol. The city was attacked by the Russian army with many long-range missiles and shells.

Before the war, it was home to about 450,000 people. This city has been continuously attacked since early March until now. Ukrainian President Zelensky once said that the city is “turning to dust” but will “survive”.

According to the BBC (UK), since Crimea’s annexation of Russia in 2014, the city of Mariupol has been sandwiched between the Russian army stationed in Crimea and the civilian armed forces in the Donbass region.

“Russian troops are advancing from northeastern Crimea, trying to establish contact with Russian military forces and Ukrainian civilian armed forces in the Donbass region.” BBC said.

Richard Barrons, former commander of the British Expeditionary Force, said that if the Russian military succeeds in controlling Mariupol, it means that the land corridor from Russia to Crimea will be smooth. As a result, Russia will also take full control of more than 80% of Ukraine’s Black Sea coast and further cut off Ukraine’s maritime trade and its connections to the outside world.

On the other hand, if Russia took full control of Mariupol, the nearly 6,000 troops currently in the city could form battalion-level combat groups and redeploy to other fronts in Ukraine.

Russia attacked the shopping center and accused it of being Ukraine’s “weapons”
