The Tianzhou 2 spacecraft will re-enter Earth’s atmosphere on command from the control center, the China Manned Space Administration (CMSA) announced. The spacecraft took off from the Wenchang Space Launch Center in the southern Chinese province of Hainan on May 29, 2021. This is the first supply ship to launch in the technology testing phase on Thien Cung station.
During its time in orbit with the space station, the Tianzhou 2 spacecraft performed extensive experiments. Currently, the ship is in good condition. Tianzhou-2 carried 6.8 tons of supplies, including 160 cargo packages and 2 tons of propellant, according to the Chinese Academy of Space Technology (CAST) manufacturer in May 2021.
Garbage from the space station is being stored on the Tianzhou 2 spacecraft. After completing the mission and separating from the Thien Cung station, the cargo ship will not land directly on the ground, but will go to a scheduled sea to release waste, according to Yang Hong, chief engineer of the Chinese space station.
The predecessor of Thien Chau 2 was the first supply ship in the Thien Cung 2 space station mission. The ship separated from the station on June 21, 2017. After two braking operations under the control and monitoring of ground control specialists, the spacecraft plunged into the Earth’s atmosphere and caught fire on September 22, 2017. China plans to complete construction of the space station this year. The cargo ship Tianzhou 4, the passenger ship Shenzhou 14, two experimental modules, the Tianzhou 5 and Shenzhou 15 will be deployed respectively.
