For the first time, China blocked Shanghai in half to blockade

This leading financial center of China and Asia has decided to separate Shanghai in half to blockade. From April 28 to 1, 11 million people were locked down in central districts east and west of the Huangpu River. From April 1 to 5, blockade the remaining 14 million people.

Nearly all public transport, businesses stop production, employees work from home, except for businesses producing essential goods, personal vehicles must have a permit. Residents are advised not to leave Shanghai, people from elsewhere are advised not to come to the city. People are guaranteed to have enough food and food supplies.

The city will continue mass testing for 25 million people in the next round after testing more than 30 million people before. The tight blockade of the city to conduct testing in a rolling fashion for 8 days is also a way to reduce disruption for businesses, with the least impact on the global supply chain of goods.

In the past 24 hours, Shanghai recorded 50 positive cases with symptoms, but there were 3,450 positive cases without symptoms. With the asymptomatic stealthy strain of Omicron predominating, experts believe that rigorous PCR testing can only screen for the disease.

Many comments believe that Shanghai will be the locality to test China’s zero-tolerance anti-epidemic strategy with COVID-19 but with the least economic impact. In the short term, the country has succeeded in Shenzhen – the leading technology center and export hub to the world.
