Sony is about to announce a monthly gaming subscription service, directly competing with Microsoft

According to Bloomberg, citing internal sources, Sony is preparing to announce the project with the codename “Spartacus”, as early as next week. This is Sony’s monthly gaming subscription service, which combines the advantages of both PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus services. With this project yet to be officially named, Sony will directly compete with Microsoft’s Game Pass model.

According to the source, Sony’s service package will include many levels, owning a quality game store of recent blockbusters, in addition to classic games that have landed on the PlayStation.

However, unlike Game Pass, which allows subscribers to enjoy the blockbuster on the first day of sale, Sony’s Spartacus service will not adopt this model. That means God of War Ragnarok will not simultaneously land the Spartacus service on the expected release date, within 2022.

In an article published in February, the VentureBeat news site said that the Spartacus service will own three levels: Essential – Basic, Extra – More content and Premium – Premium, with three prices respectively. USD, 13 USD and 16 USD. However, the name of the service itself as well as each price may change when Sony makes an official statement.
